Your Questions, Answered

Is the Wild Xplorer bag waterproof?

Yes. When installed correctly, the bag is waterproof under normal conditions (tested to AATCC 35 Standard). In extreme weather (e.g. prolonged heavy rain or standing water), we recommend sealing electronics or valuables inside waterproof plastic bags as an extra precaution.

How fast can I drive with the bag installed?

For safety, keep speeds under 70 mph (110 km/h). Always ensure the bag is secured and check straps regularly during long trips.

Can I use this on a 2-door car?

Yes, but only if your 2-door vehicle has raised side rails or a roof basket. The included door hook system requires 4 doors for safe installation.

What if the weatherstripping on my car is hard to pull down?

That can happen - some are lightly glued in place. You may need to use a bit of force, or a hairdryer or heat gun on a low setting to soften the adhesive.

Will using the door hooks damage the rubber weatherstripping on my doors?

No. The rubber can be pulled down and replaced over the hooks. Only pull back as much as needed for the hooks, and always close the door after the seal is back in place.

Will this work with sliding van doors?

Yes. The included hooks are compatible with most sliding door designs.

Will this scratch my roof?

No, not if used correctly. Always use the included non-slip protective mat and avoid placing sharp or abrasive items near the edges of the bag. Secure straps firmly enough to prevent the bag from shifting, but not so tightly that the bag digs into the roof.

How do I reduce noise from straps flapping in the wind?

Wrap and secure any excess straps using the built-in Velcro loops at the end of each strap.

What if I don’t use all 6 door hooks?

Only 4 hooks are needed. We include 2 extras in case you lose one.

Is it okay to leave the bag on the roof overnight?

We don’t recommend leaving the bag unattended for long periods, as it may be exposed to heavy rain or theft. For safety and longevity, unload cargo from the bag, remove the bag from the roof and store it indoors when not in use.

How can I improve my fuel efficiency while driving with the bag installed?

Place heavier items toward the front and shape the bag into a smooth dome, using a pillow or blanket to fill gaps if needed. Tighten all straps to prevent flapping, secure excess straps with Velcro loops, and keep speeds moderate - drag increases sharply as speed rises.

What’s the maximum weight I can load into the bag?

Since this is a roof bag, your vehicle’s roof load limit is the deciding factor. Therefore, check your owner’s manual and do not exceed it. While the Wild Xplorer bag is built to hold substantial weight, always place it on the roof empty before loading, and fully unload it before removing it from the roof.
